Carlisle United have signed Liam Atkin from Newcastle United on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old defender has been on trial with the Cumbrians and featured in a reserve team match on Tuesday where he impressed manager Neil McDonald.
"He is a very good young player who comes highly recommended from Newcastle," McDonald told the club's official website.
"We've had a good look at him and we are happy to have him here with us.
"We've taken his contract until the end of the season and then we can look at things further from there."
