Cumbrians axe McDonald

Carlisle United have axed manager Neil McDonald after only one game of the League One season and only three days after breaking the club's transfer record by signing Blackburn striker Joe Garner for an initial £140,000.
The Cumbrians opened the season with a 1-1 draw at Walsall on Saturday.
A brief statement on the club's official website read: "The board of Carlisle United Football Club regret to say that they have lost confidence in Neil McDonald and are terminating his contract forthwith.
"They thank him for his hard work at the club and wish him all the best for his future career.
"Greg Abbott has been appointed as caretaker manager."
McDonald replaced Paul Simpson at Brunton Park 14 months ago and he guided the club to a respectable mid-table spot in League One as United enjoyed a season of consolidation after two successive promotions.
