Carlisle cool cash crisis talk

Carlisle United have dismissed reports that the League One club are in dire financial straits.

The Cumbrians avoided relegation to League Two on a dramatic final day of the season, but subsequent reports suggested that the club could be on the verge of serious financial problems.

"The club is alright financially," chief executive David Allen told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"We don't have a few million pounds in the bank or anything but we're certainly not in difficulty."

Defending the decision to cut the budget for next season, Allen added: "All that I can tell you about the budget is that we've had a very, very disappointing year looking back. We'd have liked a lot more money coming in through the gate.

"We've gone into a recession and we've also had some very, very bad results and some very bad play down there, which has reduced the gates."
