Alnwick returns to Spurs

Caretaker manager Greg Abbott has confirmed that Ben Alnwick has returned to Tottenham after Harry Redknapp opted to recall the goalkeeper from his loan spell at Carlisle United.

Abbott, who had been keen to extend Alnwick's stay at Brunton Park for two more months after the 21-year-old impressed in his six appearances for the club, understands why Spurs want the keeper back at White Hart Lane.

He told the club's official website: "It was important that any decision that was made was in the best interests of the player.

"The coaching and management staff at Tottenham want to take a closer look at him, and it may open up an opportunity for him with them. We're happy to go along with that, as Ben obviously wants to show them what he's capable of.

"We thank Ben for his efforts over the course of the last four weeks. It's been a successful stay with us, and he's definitely still on our radar but, obviously, we wish him well with what he's trying to do with Spurs."
