Abbott starts to rebuild

Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott has released six first-team players less than a week after a 2-0 home win over Millwall on the final day of the season saved the club from relegation.

Midfielders Chris Lumsdon, Lewis Neal, Luke Joyce and Jeff Smith, goalkeeper Chris Howarth and striker Danny Carlton have all been told they can leave Brunton Park.

However, Abbott has offered new two-year deals to Danny Graham, David Raven, Tony Kane and Ian Harte as well as Workington goalkeeper Adam Collin.

Meanwhile, midfielder Gavin Rothery has been handed a one-year deal.
