Abbott lauds five-star show
15 Feb 2010 - 16:28:08
Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott was only too pleased to sound his delight following the club's 5-0 weekend victory over League One rivals MK Dons.
The Cumbrians eased their relegation fears and kept alive their very slim play-off hopes thanks to goals from Ian Harte, Matty Robson, Darryl Duffy, Scott Dobie and Joe Anyinsah.
The win was the biggest in three years and they now sit in 11th place in the table.
And after securing a berth in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last week by beating Leeds United in the Northern Area Final, things are looking up for the Brunton Park outfit.
Speaking to the News & Star, Abbott said: "This will spread some positive energy through the town.
"We created more chances in any game that I have known since I've been in charge.
"It was great to see the players showing that much confidence and positivity. We have to be in that top half by hook or by crook and the players are giving me everything they have got.
"The belief is there. It comes from going to places like Huddersfield and getting a result, and turning Leeds over in two legs. Confidence is oozing through."
