Robson rocket earns Cumbrians point

Defender Matty Robson grabbed a spectacular equaliser to earn Carlisle a 1-1 draw at Walsall.

Robson fired a free-kick into the top corner from 25-yards out after Saddlers' defender Olly Lancashire had fouled Liam Noble.

Walsall were the better side in the first half and deservedly took the lead in the 33rd minute when young winger Jamie Paterson delivered a perfect free-kick beyond the far post where Will Grigg stooped to head his third goal of the season.

At that point Walsall looked comfortable but Carlisle manager Greg Abbott changed his formation in the second half and his side should have been level within a couple of minutes of the restart. Substitute Francois Zoko crossed for Lee Miller to head down but Noble failed to beat home goalkeeper James Walker from 10 yards.

The Cumbrians then went looking for the winner with some lively raids and 10 minutes from the end top scorer Miller connected with a powerful header which James Walker saved brilliantly. Then, with eight minutes to go Zoko fluffed a glorious chance to clinch all three points by screwing his shot wide of the left-hand post from Noble's pass.

In the last minute Carlisle keeper Adam Collin denied Walsall with a great save from Paterson's free-kick.
