Thirlwell doubtful for Cumbrians

The influential midfielder missed the 1-1 draw at Leeds on Tuesday with tendon damage in his lower leg and has not trained since. Boss Greg Abbott is not expecting to have Thirlwell available and could contemplate a change of formation for this weekend's game. Abbott played with just one up front in the impressive draw at Elland Road, with Joe Anyinsah ploughing the lone furrow in attack, but the boss may be tempted by a more attacking formation which could see Scott Dobie or Richard Offiong handed a start. Abbott has more bad news surrounding goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley, who has been told to stay away from the club after coming down with a virus. Pidgeley was a doubt for the Leeds clash, but came through a fitness test to play and has since suffered the effects. Adam Collin will play between the sticks if Pidgeley does not make it. Abbott was sent to the stands at Leeds for leaving the technical area, but looks set to avoid a touchline ban and will take his place in the dugout on Saturday.
