Stewart spot on to down Cumbrians

Carlisle dominated for much of the game without finding a cutting edge to their attacking and Stewart's first goal of the campaign left the Cumbrians still seeking their first home point. The home side had the better of a largely uninspiring opening half with defender Danny Livesey heading narrowly wide from Ian Harte's free-kick. Matty Robson's 39th-minute cross was headed against his own crossbar by visiting defender Matt Taylor as Carlisle pushed for a goal. Liam Sercombe saved Exeter with a clearance off the line after Livesey had met Graham Kavanagh's corner with a thumping header. The Grecians grabbed the lead against the run of play in the 73rd minute when Stewart was tripped by goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley as he ran onto Sercombe's through ball. Stewart took the penalty himself, dinking cheekily spot-kick past the diving keeper. It was Exeter's first shot on target in the match and it proved decisive.
