Richards brace sinks Cumbrians

Two goals from midfielder Matt Richards saw bottom of the table Walsall come from behind to beat promotion chasing Carlisle 2-1 at the Banks's stadium. Walsall fell behind in the 26th minute when, after James Walker had saved from Frank Simek, Mike Grella followed up to smash a low drive into the net. But they were level after 37 minutes, Richards sending a superb free-kick from just outside the box curling into the top right-hand corner of the net. And eight minutes into the second half Richards struck again, taking a short free-kick from Richard Taundry in his stride and lashing a left-foot shot low past Adam Collin. Carlisle piled on the pressure late in the game but Jimmy Walker made a fine save from Ben Marshall and top scorer Gary Madine hooked the ball against a post.
