Reserves disappoint Carlisle boss

Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott has revealed some of his players failed to impress in Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at Morecambe. Abbott shuffled his squad for the match to allow some of his fringe players a first-team opportunity but admitted some displays were a disappointment. "A few of the players were telling me they should be in the first team," he told BBC Radio Cumbria. "Possibly they've not pushed hard enough to persuade me to make changes." The Cumbrians progressed in the competition with a 4-2 penalty shoot-out defeat of the Shrimps after the game had ended 2-2 in normal time. And with struggling Tranmere next on the agenda for Carlisle, Abbott is keen to extend the impressive away form which has seen his side unbeaten in their last three matches on home soil. "We want to bring our away form to Brunton Park, and we want our fans to see us play as well as we have done on our travels," he said. "It'd be great if we could get a result, a great performance and send everyone home happy and then they can have the optimism that I have having seen us on our travels. "We're due a good performance at home and we're trying desperately hard to make that happen."
