Marshall keen to extend deal
Ben Marshall is hoping the result of imminent talks with Stoke will see his loan spell at Carlisle extended until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old winger, who rejoined the Cumbrians in August on a deal until January 3 following his successful loan spell last season, is set to return to the Britannia Stadium this week for discussions regarding his long-term future with the Potters.
One of the motivations for the former Manchester United and Crewe youth player to stay at Brunton Park for the rest of the campaign is a possible trip to Wembley for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final which he missed out on last season due to being cup-tied.
Marshall told The News and Star: "I'm going back to Stoke this week to have a chat with the manager but I'm confident I'll be here after Christmas. Hopefully we can sort it out.
"I don't know about a permanent move, I've just got to weigh my options up. I'm still a Stoke player and my main aim is to get into Stoke's first team and stay there, but I need games. I'd like to stay on loan at Carlisle until the end of the season and hopefully play at Wembley. Last season I missed out which was really disappointing."
