The midfielder was in tears when manager Greg Abbott told him his five-year spell with the club was over as they were unwilling to extend his contract. But the 29-year-old says he would have been willing to negotiate a reduced salary if he had been given the opportunity. "When I went to see the manager he said he couldn't afford to keep me because the budget has been slashed," Lumsdon told The Cumberland News. "But nobody asked me about the possibility of renegotiating my contract and taking a cut. I would definitely have thought about that, because everybody knows how much the club means to me. "It's such a shock to be leaving. I've had the best five years of my career here and it's devastating."
