Gowling jets in for Gillingham

Gowling, 25, has struggled to earn regular football since his move to Brunton Park from Bournemouth a year ago, and spent time on loan at Hereford last season. With only Garry Richards and Simon King at his disposal, Gills boss Mark Stimson has made signing a new centre-back a priority this summer and provisions are in place for Gowling to extend his stay in Kent should all parties agree. Carlisle boss Greg Abbott told the club's official website: "I was happy that he had returned for pre-season to fight for his place but an opportunity has come up for him to get some regular football and put himself in the shop window. "We are well covered in that area so this will give him a chance to show what he can do with Gillingham."
