The 23-year-old made just five appearances for the Cumbrians before being loaned out to Hereford for the second half of last season. However, Abbott insists Gowling will get another opportunity to make his mark at the club he joined from Bournemouth on a free transfer 12 months ago. "We're due to talk with Josh at some point in the next week or so to see what the situation is," Abbott told the club's official website. "Josh is still one of our players, and every player at this club has a role to play while they are here. Next season is a new season and as far as I am concerned it's a level playing field for all the players in the squad. "It's down to what they do in pre-season as to who starts the first game and that's no different for Josh Gowling. Hereford had a difficult season but the reports we have had back are that he has done alright."
