Cumbrians offer Abbott new deal

The 46-year-old joined the Cumbrians as their assistant manager in the summer of 2006 and stepped up as caretaker manager when Neil McDonald left the club in August 2007.[LNB]He served as John Ward's assistant for 13 months and was named as his successor following his exit in November 2008.[LNB]Managing Director John Nixon told the club's official website: "We have agreed the contract extension in principle and it is just now a case of finalising the signatures and completing formalities."[LNB]Abbott added: "This is a tough job but it is an excellent football club and I thoroughly enjoy working here. Many of the things that we have set in place have been with the future in mind, and I am looking forward to continuing that work on into the 2010/11 season.[LNB]"We feel that we are making real progress and it is a job that I want to complete. There is still a long way to go, but I have a fantastic relationship with the board and we want to continue to improve things and take the club as far as we can."[LNB][LNB]
