Carlisle have signed Manchester United youngster James Chester on a five-month loan deal. The 21-year-old defender, who impressed in Sunday's 1-0 pre-season friendly win over Hibs, has been drafted in by manager Greg Abbott after his bid to sign Sunderland's Jean-Yves M'voto failed. Chester, Manchester United's reserve player of the year last season, will remain at Brunton Park until December 31. "I have known about James for a couple of years," Abbott told the News and Star. "I followed him when he went to Peterborough on loan and then when he went to Plymouth. "It's common knowledge that since Danny Livesey's injury we have been looking for the right type to go alongside Ian Harte. With James we have maybe found that one. "We have agreed with him and Manchester United to have him until December 31. If he does exceptionally well he might want to go higher, if he is enjoying himself he might stay a bit longer."
