Cumbrians boss not in party mood
With Jimmy Glass, the goalkeeper whose goal famously kept Carlisle in the league a decade ago, watching from the stands it was all set for another of United's great escapes.
And Abbott's men produced their first win in 11 games, with spectacular strikes from Graham Kavanagh and Paul Thirlwell, to secure their League One status for next season.
"There's nothing to celebrate," said Abbott. "It's not a time for swinging from the trees and telling people how good we are.
"We have survived and we now start the proper work on how to get this club back to where we want it to be."
But the Carlisle chief added: "It's a terrific day for the club and everyone associated with it. Collectively we stuck together and it's been a massive season from which we can gain and learn. The situations we have come up against can only make us better."
