Cumbrians begin life after Abbott

Carlisle caretaker-boss Graham Kavanagh has no new injury or suspension worries as he takes charge of his first game for the club against Sheffield United.

Kavanagh and youth-team coach David Irons have been placed in temporary charge following the sacking earlier this week of Greg Abbott.

The Cumbrians are expected to be without Sean O'Hanlon again. The central defender has been sidelined with a groin injury since mid-August, while Mansfield's Paul Black (groin) and Manchester United's Reece James (thigh) have returned to their parent clubs for treatment.

Utility man Leon McSweeney and on-loan Hull defender Conor Townsend are expected to retain their places in the starting line-up after both making their debuts last week.

Sheffield United will monitor Jamie Murphy ahead of the trip.

Murphy missed last weekend's derby defeat to Rotherham with a muscle injury but has returned to training this week.

George Long and Sean McGinty have both been on international duty but they have returned to the club unscathed so will come into contention at Brunton Park.

Febian Brandy serves the final game of his three-match ban and is the only other absentee for the Blades, who go in search of their first win since the opening day of the season.
