Cumbrians revival continues

Carlisle's revival continued as they made it three straight league wins under new manager Keith Curle with a 3-0 win over a disappointing Stevenage side.

First half goals from Brad Potts and Steven Rigg set them on their way and Mark Beck was on hand to add a third late on.

An impressive first half performance belied Carlisle's lowly league position and they took a deserved 17th-minute lead when Kyle Dempsey found Potts on the right-hand side of the box and Potts coolly stroked a low left-foot shot past Chris Day.

Roarie Deacon might have levelled for Stevenage soon after, but dragged his shot wide of the right-hand post from a promising position.

However there was no subduing Carlisle who went 2-0 ahead in the 28th minute when Rigg applied the finishing touch to a sweeping move involving Danny Grainger and Potts. It was Potts who supplied the perfect low cross for Rigg to turn the ball in first time from inside the six yard area.

The same pattern continued after the break as first Dean Wells prevented Rigg grabbing a second with a last ditch block, then an under-pressure Charlie Lee sliced a clearance from Grainger's cross against his own post.

Andy Bond provided a rare flicker of hope for Stevenage with a blast from the edge of the area which had Carlisle goalkeeper Dan Hanford at full stretch before Beck side-footed White's low cross home from six yards to complete Carlisle and Curle's day.
