Carlisle enjoy victory in home away from home

Carlisle turned Preston's Deepdale ground into a home from home as they defeated Notts County 3-0 in Sky Bet League Two.

The Cumbrians were playing the home fixture away from their Brunton Park ground which had been flooded by Storm Desmond which had ravaged the county.

Carlisle scored in the first half through Danny Grainger and Jabo Ibehre, with Ibehre adding a third after the break.

Carlisle went ahead early on when Graham Burke brought down Jason Kennedy just inside the area and Grainger sent Roy Carroll the wrong way from the resulting penalty.

Burke nearly made amends for County in the 27th minute when his shot had Mark Gillespie comprehensively beaten only to cannon off the goalkeeper's right hand post.

Moments later Curtis Thompson's cross was met by Jon Stead's close-range header and this time Gillespie's reaction save prevented what looked like a certain goal.

On the stroke of half-time Ibehre made it 2-0 with a simple sidefoot finish from inside the six yard box after Michael Raynes had flicked on Mark Ellis' long throw from the right.

Ibehre grabbed his 14th goal of the season in the 59th minute, lashing home from 12 yards after the Magpies defence had failed to deal with Grainger's cross.

Charlie Wyke had the first effort, but when the ball fell to Ibehre, Carlisle's top marksman had time to line up the shot before firing home.

County's best spell came late on when the outcome was already determined with their a great chance falling to Stead who was unable to force the ball past Gillespie from almost on the goal line.
