Berrett denies Latics
Carlisle snatched a 2-2 draw in dramatic fashion with a penalty three minutes into added time to dent Oldham.
The Cumbrians fought back after trailing 2-0 at half-time to goals from Aidan White and Chris Taylor.
Francois Zoko pulled one back for the home side in the 76th minute and it was a referee's assistant who signalled for a hotly disputed spot kick as time was threatening to run out for Carlisle.
Carlisle defended a heavily frozen area of the pitch in the first half and were soon skating on thin ice as White fired Oldham into an eighth minute lead. Taylor's measured cross from the left found White unmarked at the far post and he brought the ball under control before coolly slipping his shot past the helpless Adam Collin from six yards.
Carlisle did not look much like a side in form as they struggled to come to terms with the conditions and a lively Latics' attack.
Oldham extended their lead in the 33rd minute. This time White was the provider when his cross from the right caught Lubo Michalik unawares as Taylor got past the big centre half to send a downwards header just inside the left hand post.
Three minutes later Ourmare Toumkara missed a glorious chance to put the game beyond Carlisle's reach when he blasted over the bar from just six yards out.
Carlisle rang the changes with three substitutions after the break in a bid to fire up an underperforming side and full-back Frank Simek went close with a rasping volley which had keeper Ben Amos scrambling desperately across his line as it flew just wide.
Ben Marshall, Carlisle's on-loan Stoke forward finally created room on the right in the 76th minute and his low cross from the byline was turned home from six yards by Zoko for his eighth goal of the season.
James Berrett then kept his cool to level from the spot and ensure the points were shared.
