Clarke rescues Crawley

A late strike by substitute Billy Clarke snatched a point for Crawley in a 1-1 draw against Carlisle and ended a run of four straight league defeats without a goal.

Liam Noble had fired Carlisle ahead two minutes after half-time from the penalty spot, but Crawley's comeback extended the home side's poor record of just one win in their last nine games.

A featureless first 45 minutes provided little to warm the Brunton Park crowd with Crawley content to play on the break and Carlisle looking thoroughly disjointed in attack.

The only chance fell to Crawley's Andy Drury in the 18th minute when he cut in from the left the drill a low shot which struck the outside of the near post.

There was greater energy from the home side after the break and after Prince Buaben had stung Paul Jones' palms from 35 yards, the ensuing corner by Robson led to a penalty when Max Eimer was hauled down by Joe Walsh. Noble gave Jones no chance with a powerful spot-kick to the keeper's right.

Clarke, back after injury, provided the spark for Crawley two minutes from time when he broke on the left and fired in a shot from 25 yards which deceived Amos and went through the keeper's grasp at the left-hand post.
