Jabo Ibehre goal earns Carlisle victory against Stevenage

Jabo Ibehre's 15th goal of the season was enough to earn Carlisle a scrappy 1-0 win over Stevenage in Sky Bet League Two.

The Boro, looking for a third straight win, had sufficient chances to have got something out of the game but were let down by their finishing.

Stevenage were almost gifted a third-minute goal when Carlisle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie's clearance went straight to Tom Pett who promptly fed Byron Harrison inside the box, but Gillespie redeemed himself by tipping the on-loan striker's shot wide for a corner.

Carlisle's sluggish start was almost punished again midway through the first half when Dean Parrett's dipping 25-yard drive came back off the crossbar bar.

However it was Ibehre who broke the deadlock on the hour with a header from Alexander McQueen's lofted ball into the box. The forward got up well six yards out to direct a header just inside Jamie Jones's left-hand post for his first goal since December.

Boro should have levelled in the 70th minute when a long ball in from the right landed at the feet of the unmarked Ryan Hedges who, from six yards, contrived to slide the ball across the face of goal and wide.

Stevenage's Luke Wilkinson missed another chance as Carlisle survived some jittery late pressure to clinch the points.
