Buzzing Murphy sinks Bees

New dad Peter Murphy had a double reason to celebrate after firing Carlisle to a Wembley victory in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final. Murphy's two-day-old son, and proud new mum Lisa, were among a crowd of 40,000 to see the 30-year-old defender's fine first-half goal secure a 1-0 win over Brentford. Murphy made the 300-mile trip south following the birth on Friday morning, and it proved worthwhile as Carlisle avenged last season's 4-1 final defeat against Southampton. The long-serving centre-half settled the match with a stylish finish from a corner after just 12 minutes. "It's been a very good weekend for me," he told Sky Sports afterwards. "After last year we felt that we had something to prove and Brentford put us under a lot of pressure. They are a very good side but we held out. "It's very nice to have Lisa and my baby here to watch and I can't wait to go up and see them as I didn't get much time with them on Friday. It's been a tiring few days for me, I managed to get a few hours of rest in the team hotel and this makes it all worthwhile."
