The Cumbrians secured a final-day victory over Millwall to preserve their League One status but Abbott is keen to trim his squad, with six players already set to be released when their contracts expire next month. And Abbott told the News and Star: "We have too many players who haven't contributed enough a few who have underachieved and some bad luck along the way. "The plan next season is to assemble a smaller, tighter squad with cover coming from younger players pushing through. "If we get three players in who are better than what we had last Saturday against Millwall, we are going to be a decent side."
