Abbott: My players are behind me

The Cumbrians are in the League One relegation zone after going seven games without a win and chief executive David Allen admitted he was "very concerned" about their situation on Monday. But Abbott, who has been in charge at Brunton Park since December last year, insists the backing of his players will help him keep his job. "I'm great when my back's against the wall because I was a fighter as a player and I'm a fighter as a character," he told the News and Star. "When you are losing games, you have a massive problem if your ship is not with you. We have had a brutally honest meeting and, if I didn't think the players were with me, I wouldn't last five minutes longer. "They fact that they are 100% behind me - and I can categorically say that - means we have got a great chance."
