Abbott looking to splash Madine cash
Carlisle showed they can cope without striker Gary Madine with a comfortable 4-0 home win over lowly Bristol Rovers.
Madine, left out of the Cumbrians side, looks set to complete a permanent switch to Sheffield Wednesday, who have paid an undisclosed fee and offered the 20-year-old a four-and-a-half year contract.
But Carlisle made light work of Rovers with two James Berrett penalties sandwiching second-half goals from Craig Curran and debutant Liam Cooper.
Rovers played most of the second half with 10 men after defender Danny Coles was sent off for his 51st-minute tackle on Francois Zoko.
On Madine's transfer, Abbott said: "It's a deal that suits us, Sheffield Wednesday and Gary well and I wish Gary all the best.
"Now I've got to start looking. It's getting the right type at the right amount. I would like to bring in at least two players."
