Abbott closes in on a forward

Abbott, who refused to identify the player, is hopeful a deal can be agreed, but admits it could be difficult to meet the forward's wage demands. "We've made a firm enquiry to a club for a player and it will come down to whether we can do the package," Abbott told the Cumberland News. "It's a long way from being completed, but we've been in contact with the agent and things are progressing. The player has been playing at a better level than us, has got a bit of pedigree and it might surprise a few people. "His current wage compared to ours is very high and we need to know that he is willing to come within that. I'm 50-50 on whether he might be able to do that. "We would like to do a permanent one on this, but the option of a loanee from a Premier League club is still there and there is a phone call in with one of them as well."
