Abbot to be given time with Blues

Abbott took over the reins at Brunton Park in November following John Ward's sacking, but has failed to turn the club's fortunes around and has won just eight of his 29 games at the helm so far. The Cumbrians remain in relegation danger with five games to play, but chief executive David Allen has given Abbott assurances about his future. "We do think that Greg has done a good job," Allen told the News & Star. "He has taken a lot of criticism because of course all the decisions are not perfect. But overall he has done a good job in the circumstances. He has got a squad that wasn't his to start with, and no doubt he will make some changes there. "We would need to be fighting to get back up straight away. But I do think we would have to give Greg a chance if we went down."
