Routledge to join Bluebirds

Cardiff City have moved swiftly to head off a potential midfield injury crisis by agreeing a deal to sign Wayne Routledge from Aston Villa.

The former England Under-21 international winger has agreed a two-month loan switch to the Bluebirds.

Cardiff boss Dave Jones made his move after losing both Peter Whittingham and Joe Ledley to injury this week.

Whittingham faces three months on the sidelines with ankle ligament damage, while Ledley will miss the next four weeks following surgery on a dislocated finger.

Routledge has started just two games for Villa this season - both in the UEFA Cup - and finds himself well down the pecking order at the high-flying Premier League club.
