Return nears for Enckelman
30 Mar 2009 - 12:35:03
Cardiff City goalkeeper Peter Enckelman is hoping to be back in action in the near future, having been sidelined since the end of January by a knee injury.
The 32-year-old Finland international was forced to undergo surgery to correct cartilage damage, but is now close to a return for the Bluebirds.
He told Wales Online: "I won't be far off being ready to play by the time this international break is over.
"I'd had a niggly knee for a couple of weeks and it ached a bit, nothing more. Then, after training, I was walking off and the knee locked. I couldn't bend it at all.
"I went for a scan and they found bits of cartilage floating around and I thought it would be cleaned up and I would be playing again in two or three weeks.
"Then the surgeons discovered cartilage was flaking off the bone and more had to be done. For three weeks I wasn't able to put any weight on the leg.
"I am due another scan now and hopefully that will show everything is fine now."
