Purse staying with Cardiff

Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale has rubbished reports linking Darren Purse with a move to Wigan Athletic.

The Bluebirds skipper has been linked with a departure from the Championship club all summer, but Ridsdale claims Purse is close to putting pen to paper on a new two-year contract.

"Everything is verbally agreed and the formal contract is being written up and will be ready early this week," he told the South Wales Echo.

"Darren is staying with Cardiff City.

"Wigan Athletic have not been in touch about Darren Purse."

Purse has made 77 appearances for Cardiff following a £750,000 move from West Brom in 2005.
