McPhail pens Bluebirds deal

Cardiff City midfielder Stephen McPhail has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Ninian Park until the end of the 2010-11 season.

The 27-year-old moved to the Bluebirds from Barnsley last summer and made 45 appearances for Dave Jones' side.

McPhail told City's official website: "It came out of the blue at the end of last season - the manager spoke to me and asked if I was prepared to stay with the club for a longer period - and I was delighted to accept the offer.

"The negotiations went on over the summer, the manager and chairman wanted to make sure that I liked it here, and I'm really pleased that it was all concluded earlier this week.

"I feel that the club is going in the right direction both on the pitch with the players that the gaffer has signed, and off the pitch with the new stadium project starting to take shape."
