Matthews lands FL Apprentice gong

Published: 15 Mar 2010 - 11:33:34

Matthews, 18, has been with Cardiff from the age of eight and signed his first professional contract on his 17th birthday last January. But it is this season that he has really risen to prominence and, having made his first-team debut back in August, has already gone on to rack up 30 appearances and gained a call-up to Wales' senior squad in the process. Inevitably, the youngster has been linked to the Premier League, with Manchester United and Arsenal believed to be tracking his progress. His latest award only goes to strengthen his reputation. Elsewhere, Newcastle midfielder Kevin Nolan walked away with the division's Player of the Year prize.
