Loovens appeal fails

Cardiff City defender Glenn Loovens has failed with his bid to have his red card from Saturday's game against Preston North End rescinded.

Bluebirds boss Dave Jones appealed to the Football Association of Wales to see if the dismissal could be overturned but the appeal has been rejected.

The former Feyenoord defender was sent off in the tenth minute for fouling the onrushing David Nugent on the edge of the visitors box.

After the game Jones had said: "The sending-off was a mere shoulder charge and Glenn has been punished for being stronger than Nugent."
