Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has handedJoe Ledley a glowing reference by claiming his importance to the Bluebirds is similar to that of Steven Gerrard's at Liverpool.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday's Championship match at Bristol City, Jones made the admission in what could be Ledley's final appearance before going under the surgeon's knife to cure operations on his hips.

Jones said: "Joe is pencilled in for his operation at the end of this month.

"You saw on Saturday that once he took a bump he was very limited in his movements but full credit to Joe he kept going.

"We got him in at half time and got him rubbed down but you can only do that so many times.

"Joe's an integral part of this football club. He is like Steve Gerrard is to Liverpool - an iconic figure among fans and everybody who works at the club."
