Cardiff City have seen their appeal over the sending-off of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at Colchester United rejected by the Football Association of Wales.

The veteran Dutch striker was dismissed at Layer Road for a high challenge on U's goalkeeper Dean Gerken, with the Bluebirds feeling that the decision of referee Kevin Wright had been harsh.

However, a statement from the FAW read: "A Disciplinary Panel of the Football Association of Wales met to consider the claim of wrongful dismissal in respect of the sending-off for serious foul play.

"After carefully considering the written and DVD evidence submitted, the panel decided the claim should be rejected."

Hasselbaink will now miss league games against Bristol City, Southampton and West Bromwich Albion, but will be available for the FA Cup semi-final against Barnsley at Wembley on April 6.
