Gerrard happy with Championship life
The Liverpool-born centre-back, 23, completed a summer switch from League One side Walsall for an undisclosed fee and, just like Roger Johnson following his move from Wycombe, has looked every bit the part at the heart of the defence. He admits he is yet to be scared by anything he has come across in England's second tier. "Obviously I've got to up my game because I'm stepping up a level but I haven't played against someone where I've thought 'he could tear me apart'. I haven't come across that yet and hopefully that can continue throughout the season," Gerrard told Cardiff City Player. In terms of the differences between the two divisions, he added: "In the Championship everyone's more tactically astute. When Newcastle needed to defend when we were attacking, they just sat behind the ball and said 'come and try to break us down'. "Which in League One, no disrespect to that league, but people get in your face and want to close you down. But in the Championship teams will just sit off and then hit you on the counter attack. That's the main difference, teams are more tactically aware of what's going on."
