Cornelius aiming for City return

The Great Dane is close to full fitness and can't wait to be involved in first team action.

Its been a frustrating season so far for Andreas Cornelius. Cardiff City's £7.5m signing from FC Copenhagen has made just two senior appearances this campaign.

He came off the bench for the last few minutes of City's win over Manchester City and then started the Capital One Cup tie away at Accrington but during that game he picked up a knock to his ankle that saw him stretchered off.

Last week he made a return in a friendly defeat at Yeovil and now he's targetting first team involvement.

"It's always hard to watch your team play when you're not able to play and you want to contribute and do the best you can," he said.

"When I knew it would take a long time I was a bit frustrated but I've learnt a lot from it and done a lot of work in the gym.

"Hopefully I'll get back stronger than before."

Cornelius, who recently won two awards at the Danish FA's annual awards, hopes to be part of the squad that face Manchester Utd on Sunday.

"I'm ready to play and my ankle is better." he said.

"I played in a friendly with no problem so it's getting better.

"I hope to be involved and I'll just try and work hard this week and show that I'm ready to be involved."

The 20 year old was the top scorer in the Danish Superliga last season with 18 goals and signed a five-year contract with Cardiff in the summer.

The £7.5m paid for him was a record transfer at the time.

"I don't think about the price tag.

"I can't think about how much they paid for me I just need to do the best I can and hopefully the fans will like it and the manager will like it."
