    City: Loovens sale is last

    15 Aug 2008 - 11:31:55

Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale claims no other key players will be leaving Ninian Park, after accepting a bid from Celtic for Glenn Loovens.

The 24-year-old Netherlands defender is set to hold talks with the Scottish champions after being strongly linked with a move to their bitter rivals Rangers throughout the summer.

But following reports that the Bluebirds are looking to cash in on more of their top talents, Ridsdale has issued a strong denial.

He told the club's official website: "Glenn made it clear that he would not discuss a new contract and that he wanted to move.

"In the circumstances accepting a bid that met our valuation of the player was the only sensible option available to us.

"Regrettably at times like this, there are some people who purport to be supporters who try to use these occasions to make mischief and try to undermine the good work that has been done over recent times.

"So that there is no misunderstanding, all of the rest of the squad that the manager sees as part of the long-term future of this football club will be staying.

"Bids have already been rejected for a number of the squad and no matter what the level of any subsequent bids for our players, all players that are contracted and that the manager wants to keep will remain with us."
