Cardiff hit back over Parry
10 Sep 2008 - 15:44:28
Cardiff City have hit out at "ill-informed and emotive" media reports regarding Paul Parry's decision to retire from international football with Wales.
Parry, 28, left the Wales camp after Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan with reports claiming he was unhappy at being left on the bench by manager John Toshack.
The former Hereford United winger has been widely criticised for his decision to end his international career having won 12 caps.
"Paul Parry wishes it to be known that his decision to withdraw from Welsh international football under the current management was a considered decision and was one that took into account his thoughts over a period of time, not just events of last weekend," read a club statement.
"Paul is passionate about Welsh football and the success of the Welsh national team.
"Comments that have been made by others over the last few days have been both ill-informed and emotive, which is particularly disappointing."
