Cardiff demand elbow probe
12 Apr 2009 - 14:03:29
Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale has called on the Football Association to launch an investigation into the incident which left Roger Johnson in hospital following Saturday's 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.
Johnson appeared to be caught in the throat by Palace centre-back Claude Davis during the first half at Selhurst Park and was substituted before being taken to hospital for overnight observation.
"We have now had the time to review the video footage of the incident where Roger Johnson was 'elbowed' in the throat by Claude Davis in our match at Crystal Palace on Saturday," read a statement on behalf of Ridsdale.
"In our opinion, the challenge looks deliberate and malicious and could have more seriously endangered Roger Johnson's well-being than hopefully is the case.
"We are now asking the Football Association to investigate as a matter of urgency.
"If that incident had happened off the field of play, the police would have been asked to view the video with a view to considering assault charges.
"Any further comment will only be made once we have had a response from the FA."
