Cardiff City stepped up their promotion push by hitting back from two goals down to beat rock-bottom Bristol City 3-2. Goals inside the first eight minutes by Steven Caulker and Jon Stead had put the Robins in control of the match but Dave Jones' team hit back to claim the three points through a Peter Whittingham brace and a Jay Bothroyd strike. Doncaster Rovers also fell behind before hitting back to win, eventually claiming a 3-1 victory at Scunthorpe United. Martyn Woolford headed the hosts in front but Sean O'Driscoll's team responded well with Billy Sharp's double and James O'Connor's header seeing them home. Wes Hoolahan missed a first-half penalty as Norwich City held table-topping QPR to a goalless draw at Loftus Road, while Swansea City moved into promotion contention after winning 1-0 at Reading - Scott Sinclair grabbing the vital goal in the 35th minute. Clive Platt and Lukas Jutkiewicz scored as Coventry City improved their play-off chances by beating Ipswich Town 2-1 at Portman Road. Jason Scotland scored Town's consolation goal just before the hour mark. Portsmouth moved further clear of the relegation zone with a thrilling 3-2 victory over high-flying Watford 3-2 at Fratton Park. Hayden Mullins had given Pompey a first-half lead only for Martin Taylor and Stephen McGinn to put the visitors 2-1 ahead. However, Dave Kitson equalised before Michael Brown netted the winner for Steve Cotterill's team with ten minutes left. Nathan Doyle, Andy Gray and Jacob Butterfield netted for Barnsley in their 3-1 victory against Nottingham Forest, Lewis McGugan grabbing the consolation goal for Billy Davies' side. Derby County continued their recent fine form by beating Preston North End 3-0 at Pride Park - Dean Moxey, Alberto Bueno and Robbie Savage netting for Nigel Clough's team. Nigel Pearson made a satisfying return to the Walkers Stadium as his Hull City side hit back to draw 1-1 against his former team, Leicester City. Andy King gave the Foxes a third-minute lead only for Robert Koren to equalise in the 52nd minute. The London derby between struggling Crystal Palace and Millwall at Selhurst Park ended 1-0 to the visitors with Theo Robinson netting the vital goal eight minutes after the interval. Sheffield United and Burnley shared six goals at Bramall Lane. After a goalless first 45 minutes, Dean Marney and Chris Eagles gave the Clarets a 2-0 lead early in the second half. The Blades hit back well though with goals by Daniel Bogdanovic and Matthew Lowton bringing them level. In stoppage time, Jay Rodriguez appeared to have grabbed Burnley's winner only for Mark Yeates to make it 3-3 moments later. In the day's late kick-off, Leeds United edged out Middlesbrough 2-1 at the Riverside to keep the pressure on Teessiders boss Gordon Strachan. Goals from Davide Somma and Luciano Becchio either side of a reply from Kris Boyd ended the West Yorkshire club's two-match losing run.
