Bluebirds end Earnie chase
18 Jan 2008 - 10:59:14
Cardiff City have admitted defeat in their efforts to try and bring Wales international striker Robert Earnshaw back to Ninian Park.
The 26-year-old has not found the net since joining Derby County last summer and has started just three games, before being told by boss Paul Jewell that he could leave the club.
However, the Rams are looking for a substantial fee and a permanent deal, which has ruled the Bluebirds out of the running.
Chairman Peter Ridsdale told the Western Mail: "I made a call to Derby. I'm making 20 calls like that a day and was told Earnshaw was not going to be put out on loan and that's that at this time.
"That was the answer then and we'll have to see if that stays the same.
"I'm aware how enormously popular a move it would be to bring Earnshaw back and I know how the supporters feel about him.
"But there's not a cat in hell's chance of us paying a transfer fee for him, or for anyone else at this point in time for that matter."
