Whittingham clear to face Watford

Peter Whittingham can play against Watford on Boxing Day.

His booking against Middlesbrough last Saturday was perceived as his fifth of the season but despite all the major news sources, including the Football League website, saying he was on five yellow cards it was actually his fourth.

The confusion comes from the away game at Peterborough. An injury time yellow card was issued to a Peterborough player and not Whittingham. The news media allocated it against the City player and the record books marked it against his name.

Those records will need changing.

There is an amnesty on Jan 1st. If Whittingham manages to go yellow free against Watford and Forest he will have his slate cleaned. As will all other players carrying yellow cards.
