Whittingham bid rejected

Cardiff chief executive Gethin Jenkins has confirmed the club turned down a bid from Nottingham Forest for midfielder Peter Whittingham. The offer from Forest, thought to be £1million, is the first concrete one the Bluebirds have received for their playmaker, who was joint top scorer in the Championship last season. Jenkins insists the Welsh side want to hang on to the 25-year-old, who joined from Aston Villa in 2007, and that contract talks are ongoing with a view to extending the player's current deal which has one-year to run. He told the South Wales Echo: "We rejected the bid from Nottingham Forest as we want to keep hold of Whittingham. We are continuing negotiations with Peter over a new contract here at Cardiff."
