Where Did It All Go Wrong For Adam Le Fondre?

When Cardiff City signed Adam Le Fondre in the summer I, like every other Cardiff fan, was very excited at the prospect of having a player that can score 20 goals a season, which he bragged about at his unveiling.

But here we are in January and in 21 appearances for the Bluebirds Alfie has only scored 3 goals and today it’s been announced that he will be spending the rest of the season on loan at Bolton Wanderers, so where did it all go wrong?

Well, let’s start with when he signed for Cardiff. Le Fondre openly said that Cardiff manager, at the time, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was a massive influence in his decision claiming that he could resist working with his hero.

Solskjaer was relieved of this duties in September which probably left Le Fondre feeling a little hard done by. He was forced to settle into a squad which clearly wasn't what he thought it would be.

But Adam Le Fondre’s problem come down to one word –confidence. Le Fondre failed to find the back of the net for the first two months in Cardiff City colours, with his first goal coming against Ipswich on October 21st.

Alfie wrote on twitter “Didn't quite happen for me at #ccfc [Cardiff City Football Club] looking to get back enjoying football and scorin[g] goals an come back better for it next season #bluebirds”

If Le Fondre can get his confidence back and start finding the back of the net then I’m sure he can come back to Cardiff next season and play like to old Adam Le Fondre we all know and love.
