Cardiff City Supporters' Trust has organised a mini football tournament in Pontypridd in aid of the Fred Keenor Statue Appeal. Supporters’ Trust teams from Cardiff, Newport and Merthyr and a side from the Valleys are raring to go with the first match kicking off on Sunday, September 4, (10am) at Maritime Park, Pontypridd.   After the tournament, the Rose and Crown, Graig, Pontypridd, will host a buffet from 6pm while The Underdogs will provide the entertainment. Those taking part are paying £5 each to play and a raffle with some great prizes is being organised.   Pontypridd-based Martin Bale, Trust board member for community activities, said: “We held a similar event in aid of the Ty Hafan which was a huge success and we’ve organised this tournament to help raise funds for the Keenor Appeal.   “Fred Keenor was a working class hero, who despite being injured in the Battle of the Somme in World War One, went on to captain Cardiff City to FA Cup glory in 1927 while also captaining his country.   “We need £85,000 to make the deserving tribute to Fred outside the Cardiff City Stadium a reality and we’ve raised more than £51,000 so far in just 16 months. The Trust would like to thank JM Creative for their £200 sponsorship of the tournament. The support of business is really appreciated.”
