Cardiff City are edging towards a lifting of the transfer embargo placed on the club. The latest update confirmed by the club is that the payments owed to players including severance pay to those that have left the club have now been paid.Bluebirds chief executive Gethin Jenkins said: "We are working hard to get the embargo lifted by the end of the week. We have paid the monies the players were due, as we said we would last week."The club must still settle the outstanding balance over the transfer of Mark Hudson from Charlton and satisfy the tax man that all is in place to meet the demands of HMRC.The spotlight is on football clubs at the moment with Southend Utd rescued in the High Court this week by supermarket Sainsbury's who have underwritten their debt and the most high profile being Portsmouth.Yesterday the court heard the side of the tax man who called the operation at Fratton Park a sham. Today Pompey try to defend themselves but the outcome tomorrow could see Portsmouth docked points for the coming season if the judge agrees with HMRC that the club is not being run satisfactorily.
